My mother taught me that "a lie is a deliberate deception." Under that definition, do you still want to make your claim?

I tend to view a lie as knowingly making a false statement with the intention to deceive someone. If you don't knowingly make a false statement I'm not sure I would call it a lie even if your intentions were to deceive.

I would not call letting someone deceive themselves a lie. If I told someone "I have no interest in X" and I figured that they would think I was trying to cover up my real interest so why they paid intention to X I could make a move for Y, I would not call that a lie. I also would not call the use of camouflage a lie even though it is an attempt to deceive someone in to thinking you are not were you really are.

By that standard I almost never lie.
