well, if they are "likely" to occur soon...then they aint a surprise are they? ;-)

while either may occur, i wouldn't catagorize either as "likely" and i also question whether a rate cut would yield more than a one day bonanaza - in fact, it may even be seen negatively as the economy is in more trouble than previously thought

Read Bill Safire in NYTimes today oped. Calls for a return to Keynes with lower cap gains rate, a second pre-christmas rebate with increased spending on military, education and a prescription drug plan.
The overall surplus always counted the Social Security surplus as part of it. This lockbox idea is absurd. I do agree that there is a possibility of a intermeeting rate cut and if that were to happen it should be 1/2 point, not a 1/4. Also some talk in DC about cutting FICA taxes in lieu of safires 2nd rate cut. mike
PS With Japan in full recession and the international market and thus world wide political stability at risk, it becomes incumbent on AG and W to do the above imo. mike
