wanna,

re: Via/Intel spat

The whole time Intel was warning motherboard makers and the rest of the world that Via didn't have a license to make/sell P4 chipsets I was thinking Via must have something in their back pocket.

I figured the validity of the S3 license must be it. Or better: their confidence in its validity.

Now with this countersuit claiming they have patents on Netburst technology, I'm wondering if maybe their original S3 IP argument doesn't hold much water, and the P4 IP was their magic weapon all along.

In other words, maybe Via knows they do not have a good stand-alone argument with the chipset, but if they really do have valid prior IP on P4 technology, then they figure they can use it for a favorable settlement on the chipset issue.

Who knows. Pure WAG. It is going to be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
