Speaking of Lousy QB's...

The Detroit Lions announced that they have made a change at starting
quarterback: Charlie Batch is out and Ty Detmer is in.

First-year head coach Marty Mornhinweg made the decision after watching
Batch struggle in the Lions' 28-6 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau
Field.

Still learning to grasp Mornhinweg's West Coast offense, Batch was 20-of-39
for 276 yards and no touchdowns against Green Bay. He was intercepted twice
by Darren Sharper and sacked seven times, including three by Kabeer
Gbaja-Biamila.

The Packers led 21-6 at the half after Batch, learning a new system based on
quick reads and precision timing, threw an interception in the end zone just
before halftime. Batch lofted a touch pass from the Packers' 5 toward Herman
Moore. Sharper, who led the league with nine interceptions last year,
cradled the pass to preserve Green Bay's 15-point lead.

Mornhinweg called the throw horrible and unacceptable. Batch agreed.

"In the worst case, we should have had a field goal in that situation,"
Batch said. "I wouldn't say it killed us, but it hurt."

Batch didn't figure to have much time to learn the new scheme after the
Lions traded for Detmer last week. Detmer has experience in the West Coast
offense and had worked with Mornhinweg in San Francisco.

The Dallas Cowboys play the Lions in Pontiac, Mich., on Sunday.

Maybe we will be 1-1 after 2 weeks <ggg>
