But of the course the rules are always different for Israel, for reasons both internal and external. Indeed... Had I been the Israelis in 1967 I would probably have probably annexed the West Bank as a right of conquest, and told the UN to get screwed. Especially, since the Israeli leaders directly and literally BEGGED Hussein not to get involved in the conflict between Egypt and Israel. And I would have cited the fact that, as I've mentioned several times here before, Jordan hadn't had any qualms about annexing the West Bank directly into his kingdom in 1948. And we know the UN said VERY LITTLE about Jordan's annexation. And I would have forced every Palestinian to take a oath of loyalty to Israel, or get the hell out. It wouldn't have been very "fair", but there's nothing fair about total war between nations. And given that Israel would have received "no quarter" from the Arabs had they gained the upper hand, I would certainly feel less than generous. That's what people forget about the Mid-East and the wars that Israel has fought. Had they lost even one of those wars, there would have been a blood bath amongst Jewish civilians that would have rivaled those of the Crusades. There would have been NO restraint shown by the Arabs, because they had already created the political climate where they would have to carry out a massacre to satisfy Arab pride. Given such a situation, I think that Israel has actually show enormous restraint under the circumstances. Hawkmoon
