One of my classmates from law school had a good story.

He'd been stopped for speeding and elected to contest
the ticket.

At trial, he cross examined the officer and was
trying to suggest that the officer could not have
accurately clocked his speed because he was driving towards
him, not following, etc.

After he completed his examination of the officer,
the court inquired as to whether my friend wished to
take the stand in his own defense, so he's says "Sure!"(We must not have had Con law and the 5th amendment by this point--lol).

Anyway, after my friend was sworn in, the judge asked
him "Well, were you speeding?"

Case closed.
Fine paid.
Lesson learned: NEVER push your luck in court!!
