a cake walk! No cake walk, certainly, but can you honestly say that he is even trying? A little for one side, a little for the other, perhaps? Or a clearly articulated (hah!) centrist position mid-point between the extremes? As near as I can tell, most of the time he is clearly off on one side and the only reason the other extreme gets so much as a nod is when it gets too conspicuously embarrassing how little he cares about anything other than his own position. Don't get me wrong; it is a perfectly valid position to decide that one has thought (hah!) things through and has arrived at what one believes is the best position, which one then proceeds to stand behind, compromising only as really necessary. But, that is not the position of a "uniter".
