Beck Weathers, who lost significant portions of his extremities, during the 1996 Everest debacle is very clear that climbing that mountain is not worth the risk. OTOH, there are plenty of mountains short of Everest that can kill. There were at least two climbing fatalities in Washington State in the last week, one on Mt. Baker, one near Snoqualmie Pass, right off of I-90.
