I thought it was interesting that earlier Arab accounts, before they learned PR game, do mention Arab evacuation orders. They try to equivocate, to explain it away, but they don't deny it. I don’t think anyone can question veracity of Sykes who has unimpeachable pro-Arab credentials. Yes, I agree, contemporary reports provide the most accurate description of the events. Latter accounts allow time for interpretation, and that is not always conducive to the truth.
