"I know...when the water runs low the markets will come along with a replacement ! Markets are fabulous things." You bet - the replacement will be recycle and reuse coupled with people moving from where there is limited water to where there is plenty. I do suppose we may stop growing cotton in the desert though! As for the space program - that was/is a military necessity with military defense being one of the legitimate tasks of government.
