Verizon exec says number of phone lines dropping

WASHINGTON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - The co-chief executive of
Verizon Communications Inc. <VZ.N> says his firm for the first
time is seeing a drop in the number of telephone lines
connected to homes and businesses, The Washington Post reported
on Tuesday.
Ivan Seidenberg said in an interview with the Post that the
drop was was due to a shift to cellular phones or high-speed
Internet connections. The drop-off accelerated in the past two
months as businesses reconsidered expansion, he said.
Overall, Verizon projects revenue to grow by 5 percent this
year, to $68 billion from $64.7 billion. Verizon serves 13
states and the District of Columbia.
