Mike, I'll be in the trenches with you, no matter where this nightmare takes us. It is time we must honor our fathers and continue the fight what they thought they ended.

It appears as if the fight will never end.

Rick

Our parents and their parents had enormous challenges, the Depression, WWI, WWII, and they faced and beat those challenges so that our generation could make films, write poetry, listen to rock and roll and, generally, lead a peaceful and, yes, idyllic, existence. We have not been challenged in any significant way.

What we will face is considerably different, however. Those who came before us knew what they were fighting against because the issues were black and white: Hitler, etc. What can we do against an enemy who strikes us like a coward in the night, an enemy that doesn't mind butchering children?

I suspect the only rational thing we can do as civilians is not to be terrorized, or allow our daily activites to change as a result of this, to not let fear and terror enter our heart. This, after all, is exactly what the terrorists want, to make us live in fear and incapacitate us in this way.

I guess that's easy to say from my viewpoint in a safe protected city, but I would suggest that is the best attitude to adopt for those of us who can really do damn little to deal with this scum.

Marginmike,

I am a lurker on this board and reside on Long Island. My wife is an intern at the VA hospital in Manhattan. She is okay but there is utter chaos downtown. The hospital is in a dilemma. They have to be part of aiding the wounded but they are also a government facility so they are concerned about other acts of terror.

I have appreciated your posts as well as the others who have helped me understand QCOM and the markets. But, now as you say, and I agree, this is a seminal event in the history of this country. We are forever changed. We are the witness to a perfect storm in history. Financial markets breaking down, a weak presidency, a monumental act of war against us and who knows what else will come.

I, too, want a response from our government and military that says to any country that if we know you are harboring terrorists you are culpable and a target for retaliation or even pre-emptive strikes.

As a Jew and pro-Israel ( having been moderate to left on the peace process) I want there to be a devastating response against the Palestinians, to punish them for the most unthinkable of acts. We must all understand that this is what Israel lives with everyday, and we must stand in solidarity with the Israelis to bring an end to this kind of terror and murder.
I believe this is the beginning of a war that will destroy financial markets for the rest of this generation at least.

I am also in awe at how the markets were signaling a horrible event, but who would have thought it would be this.

Sorry for my ramble.

I am Ira Kalina
