Oh God, the Father of all, as you know and as you love, have mercy upon us in this country in the midst of today's terrible and murderous events. We pray for those who have died, their families and friends, for those who are injured, for those who minister to the wounded and those responsible for public safety. Preserve the good judgement and discretion of those to whom we entrust the care of our nation and our civil life, remembering especially our President, our national and state government leaders, our military personnel and public safety officials. In obedience to your commandment, yet with difficulty that we acknowledge to you, we pray for those who are responsible for these acts. We pray you to turn their hearts away from further violence and ask your guidance for us as we consider how to respond to what has occurred. Direct us now and always, that no injustice arise in our search for justice. In the days ahead, enable us with your continuing presence among us to build peace on earth from the rubble of these violent acts, so that the death and devastation we now endure may be redeemend in some measure in the midst of our lasting grief. All this we pray, for your mercy's sake and in the name of all who are our brothers and sisters. AMEN

The Reverend Thomas C.H.Scott
