It's hard to imagine how any sane human can justify taking so much life. Killing oneself for Allah is one insane act, but killing thousands is thousands of times more insane.

That's a tradition that goes back a long way. During the Crusades, the pope told "holy" warriors the same thing, "If you die killing the people I tell you to kill, you go straight to heaven."
