Tom, we maintain our liberties and safeguard our security as best we can. I like Benjamin Franklin's philosophy: "Any man who sacrifices liberty for safety deserves neither." America has been hugely vulnerable to terrorism for decades. We always will be. That's no reason to spoil the almost uniquely free and prosperous society built since 1776 here. Remember that Britain survived much, much worse in World War 2 and emerged as a western democracy. We will carry on too.
