Kumar, i share your anger and rage. but wanton neutralization of anyone remotely connected with the terrorists would only further fuel the hatred and fanatacism that parts of the world feels towards the great Satan, the US.
I don't profess to know the answer. I have great concerns. I have concerns for the safety and security of Americans and good people worldwide. I have concerns for the US and world economic system, which has been dealt a devastating blow, both physically, morally, and operationally. I'm sure the US will retaliate. But we must be sure that the retaliation doesn't further flame the hatred and create new little matyrs who have the goal of inflicting further damage on the Great Satan. We, in this country, can't begin to understand the mentality of these terrorists, who gladly sacrifice their lives to inflict such horrendous damage on their enemy. I think we could better understand the mentality of martians than that of the Palestinians, Tabil rebels, or whoever else. larry

kumar--

I hope you'll not be alone in expressing that "proved guilt" sentiment.

Lunched today with two of my sons...urging them to remember we are a nation of liberties and constitutional rights that are emjoyed by all citizens and legal residents, and even illegals currently here. Reminded them of the wanton incarceration of the Japanese-Americans following PH, and that this is not the time to point fingers at Arabs and Muslims here.

As a nation, I would like to see us find evidence, prove guilt, present it in a world forum, gain world confidence in those findings, and support for our reaction, which ought to be massive. Say to the world that we are a nation of freedoms for the individual which we would like the peoples of all nations to enjoy, but that we will not for a moment tolerate threats to our freedoms, so this (retaliation) is what we're gonna do. IOW, don't Mess With Texas.

I'm thinking of the presentation Stevenson made to the UN in 1963 re: Cuba Missiles. Reasoned, complete, convincing.
The last thing I want is that we should react as an international vigilante.

Its easy to say "neutralise the groups" But its practically impossible to

1. Identify the 'groups"
2. Locate them
3. Get to them
4. Kill them.
5. Make sure that you dont kill any innococent people otherwise you will be just as bad as the people who bombbed WTC.

For example if you were to idnetify Osama Bin ladedn as the prime suspect and attacked Afghanistan you would be killing innocent Afghanis who are fed up with the present Govt. forced upon them and then they get killed by American missiles. Who should or would they hate more?
