John, Re: "American troops stationed in Palestine IMHO would make Northern Ireland look like a kiddie game. We would be back to Vietnam days with the news each night broadcasting a list of American soldiers killed that day by snipers..."

The U.S. had to deal with snipers in the Gulf War. Had negligible casualties, too. I think they know how to deal with it.

John,

American troops stationed in Palestine IMHO would make Northern Ireland look like a kiddie game.

This is what was said about invasion of Iraq. I guess if you theory of self doubt and paralysis prevailed, we would by now have Saddam a leader of "unified" Muslim / Arab world shooting a missile a day in our direction.

Fortunately, there we had leaders with courage back then, and hopefully we still do.

Big difference. No place to hide in the middle East. Nam has jungles.
