Rumsfield has our loyalty but he never should have made that Star Wars statement during this crisis. That money needs to be used elsewhere, clearly. He lost my respect when I heard about it.

Scott, I wish Rumsfeld well but saying that today's attack is a reason to spend billions on missile defense is an insult to all our intelligences. (The Bush administration has the aggravating habit of claiming that every circumstance supports their fixed positions, even if the circumstance has completely changed from last month's argument.)

Didn't today prove that missiles are not our highest threat? Today's attack underscores in the most horrible way the importance of having a working intelligence service and anti-terrorism capacity, not missile defense. Iraq, Iran, Libya, bin Laden et. al. are not going to be stupid enough to attack us with missiles when they can use nerve gas or our own planes against us. They don't want to use weapons that have a return address on them!

I saw in today's paper that Rumsfeld ran to the Pentagon crash and loaded injured people onto litters.
