While I agree with a lot of what you are saying, THIS is not the time to turn the other cheek. A very strong and clear signal must be sent or this will continue here. The WTC destruction is a walk in the park compared to what could happen next time.

For some reason I have been thinking about the Russian response to terrorists. A number of years back there was a group of people who hijacked a plane. Don't remember the details but the plane was on the ground in Russia. Russian troops stormed the plane and shot everyone until they were certain all the hijackers were dead. Ever since then no hijacker has ever demanded the plane be flown to Russia and I have never heard of a plane being hijacked in Russia.

That's the kind of message I believe the US needs to send. If Osama bin Laden is responsible I don't think we should even ask the Talisban to return him. Obliterate all his camps every time they are formed and destroy the Talisban to the extent possible without hurting the Afghan people unduly.

BTW yes the fighters are impressive at the air shows, but it was when the B1? bomber flew over that my skin really began to crawl. To see that beautiful behemoth rapidly approaching at 100 feet high and to know how many bombs it can carry is unnerving to say the least. They had flown into Selfridge ANG base from out West that morning.
