JQ, Ray, Cosmo,

It strikes me you are focussing on the wrong issue. Forget about revenge, forget about counterattack. What we need is a strategic and long term plan to gain intelligence on, infiltrate, get exact locations on terrorist organizations and strike them first. You find out about a new terrorist group which calls for violence and martyrdom against the great Satan (or the Eiffel Tower or wherever) and you simply take them out. Without attribution, without claiming credit, maybe via third parties, unsavory parties. Preemptive strikes, not post incident attacks. You support, actively, insurgency groups against the current spate of dictators and extremists.

After the Cole, with our intelligence, we should have found the location of all terrorists and done what was necessary. Not a solo helicopter burning up in a failed attempt a la Jimmy Carter but sufficient muscle and explosive power to finish all the camps or at least set them back 20 years.

Face it, we are at war, and probably alone, against world terrorism. What we have to do won't be pretty but it will be necessary.

Newest reports have it that the kamikaze pilots may have trained at a Daytona, FL flight training institute.

Hi JQP,

I agree with you that Some may see what we will do as an act of revenge but I definitely do not. It is a matter of sending a strong message that we will not tolerate this kind of unjustified brutality towards our civilians.

Going one step further, I think it is time to up the ante on infiltration of these terrorist cells, and terminate them before they can become cohesive enough to take action. The horror that was effected in NYC and Washington yesterday was completely immoral, criminal and heinous. No one who contemplates such an act deserves to remain part of the human race.

To clarify my point, our actions will be viewed by others as being part of a continuing cycle of revenge only if we indiscriminately strike out in anger and kill innocent civilians. By seeking out and eliminating the terrorists themselves, we are on the moral high ground. To do so clandestinely, quickly, and without the hinderance of the legal/judicial apparatus would be, IMO, the best way to eliminate these poisoned minds and make the world safe for rest of us. I realize this is easier said than done.
