War is unimaginably awful.

I recently got a new view on the realities of war, though the words of my father-in-law. He served as a Gunners Mate in the US Navy during WWII. He was on transport ships. The cargo, soldiers. He speaks of watching the troops leave the ship on the beach's. His words, "it was 10 seconds from the time their feet hit the beach's, until their hats hit the beach" His ship was sunk on the last day of the war.

War is unimaginably awful. As strong of a statement as that it, somehow it still does not express how true it is.
