The safety of the President was paramount. They took him where they knew he would be safe until it was certain he could return to Washington.

If you feel that he should have never been in harms way, isn't that what he did by going to where he went?

When you say that it is the appearance...Isn't it possible that this is an appearance that is evident to very few people? I haven't read or heard anywhere except from you that "he ran and hid".

I think that your assessment of that situation seems to be influenced greatly by your emotions concerning him, and not what is/was the best course of action under the circumstances.

IMO had he done what you wished, and had something happened to him, do you not think that things would be much worse than they are?
I believe that yesterday they didn't really know what the situation was until much later in the day, and that they took the necessary & proper steps needed at the time.
