Discussion ensued whereby it was noted that innocents would be subjected to the danger of "going under" along with the perpetrators but it was viewed as preferable to an all encompassing catastrophic end to the incident

Don't the pilots already have the ability to reduce cabin pressure to render unconcious the whole complement of people onboard except the cockpit?

Yes......I alluded to that. Considering the alternatives..........
2 - If the hijackers can get weapons on board they might be able to get gas masks as well.
Yes...perhaps the gas could involve a serious coloured cloud mist that eliminates visibility.
I merely related the rudiments of an idea that may or may not be a solution. Perhaps a team of professionals could refine the basic idea in a brainstorming session. I would never presume for a moment that I have the final solution.
