Dabum, I believe you're right, we have invited this to happen, not because we worked hard and smart and became a wealthy free society and were somehow responsible for the laggard nations, but because we failed to have the guts, beginning with LBJ and continuing through Carter, to take significant action against our real enemies. There is little doubt what Ronald Reagan would do today if this happened on his watch (although it's arguable that this would never have happened on his watch--it was not for nothing that the Iranians released the hostages on RR's inauguration day). In any event, George I made a muck out the Iraq war, then Clinton made a muck and a mockery out of everything for 8 years. Does George II have what it takes--there have been hopeful and less than hopeful signs so far. Stay tuned. Finally, has anyone else noticed how strange music has suddenly become? I'm serious. I turn on the radio and hear Carole King singing "I feel the earth move under my feet" and it's like a sick joke. I changed channels and it's "Come people, now, smile on your brother everybody get together . . ." and it's surreal. One more channel and it's "I've seen fire and I've seen rain . . . but I always thought I'd see you again." It's as if classic rock radio is out there mocking us.
