Some are more severe than others, some are more steadfast, and politics sometimes intrudes into controversies. That does not mean that, with a better bill of particulars, Clinton would have gotten away with things. Some people sympathized too much with embarrassment over sexual misconduct; some were worried about a recession if there were a shake up in the government; some were afraid of the Religious Right, and thought Clinton was a necessary antidote. The causes of the debacle were multiple, and did not necessarily entail contempt for the rule of law per se......
