Ru2 -- may I suggest that you wait a few days for emotion to subside and facts to come out. Do you know, for starters, how many planes were in the air around DC? Do you know how long it would take to get F15s on the tales of these planes? Do you know how various ATC centers communicate? Do you think that it would be an easy decision to shoot down an airliner over populated DC when you know that the White House or Pentagon is a target that will, perhaps, incur less of a human toll? Do you think of the psychic harm to our nation if a commercial jetliner was shot down by our own fighters and later it was determined that there was some doubt as to what was going on on that plane? These are just some questions that immediately pop to my mind.

Rather than dissecting coulda/woulda/shouldas and coming up with wild theories, all of us would do better to take a deep breath, figure out what we can learn from this, and move on with more resolve than ever before. Now, I freely admit that talking about all of this is purging and we all do it in our own manner, so I'm not trying to say "shut up" or anything like that. I'm just responding in my own purging way.
