Spirit(?),

do you really believe that Wall St. brokerage houses would do you the favor and go long a stock in uncertain market circumstances?

Can't you see that it is the decent amount of stocks sold short and those who maintain short positions who have the ability to provide buying interest?

Do you believe that holders of stock double down on margin in the face of a big selloff?

There is significant monetary liquidity necessary to stabilise markets during a big drop. But this is not something provided by pikers.

If you care please pay a very brief look into a completely unamerican market - the German New Market.
The new market index is down 90% from its March 2000 peak, and there is no liquidity. There is no organised securities lending and short selling for most of the market participants. The results of it? Zero bids. Stocks go binary.

Would you prefer such a market with zero bids? That - American???
