JQP, A tale of two writers. Tom Clancy would send in the marines, David Cardwell, aka John Le Carre would send in the spooks. Your suggestion seems a good one. Know anyone who speaks good Arabic and looks totally sinister? Using a mercenary, clandestine force to further the U.S.'s interests vis a vis these heinous terrorists seems a totally cinematic approach to the souk. The problem, of course, is that we could never trust the third parties (cf. "The Tailor of Panama") to pull off our ploys. And besides which, it's sort of like they say about climbing the corporate ladder here in the States: The only problem with winning the rat race is..... you're still a rat.
