Sounds like Taliban is worrying about massive retaliation and is trying to buy time here w/a ploy.....also, distancing technique in case U.S. gets too close to Bin Ladan ("hey, we didn't like the guy either")

Alternate wave count says Taliban is trying to legitimize its regime, and figures if it cuts off the worst of the worst, maybe they'll be accepted, somehow, as the legitimate rules of Afghan...

I'm stickin' w/the preferred count.
