I'm saying what do you expect us to do about it? We're talking about a country made up of a bunch of islands, with a tremendous amount of coast line to cover, and pirates running rampant throughout the area. There's no reason for these people to be unified, and little they possess in common culturally to bring that into fruition.. So what do you want us to do?? Are you going to feed the East Timorese when they are left to forage for themselves? Are you going to turn over all of Indonesia to be ruled by the East Timorese? I'll lay you odds that if you look at that nation under a microscope, you'll see where ALL SIDES are responsible to some degree for the perpetuation of the conflict. I'm sure Jakarta doesn't relish expending money and armaments on fighting these battles. So might it be that the E. Timorese, in their call for independence, might pose a political threat to ALL of Indonesia?? Might a defeat in E. Timor result in many other islands splitting off in economically unfeasable islands that wind up begging for economic support from the West and unraveling the entire nation of Indonesia? Again.. look at this map... E. Timor is off by itself at the far reaches of the archipelago.. How are they going to economically sustain themselves?? Who will defend them from potential enemies? Who will they ally themselves with? How I personally feel about this is that the Dutch and Portugese dumped this problem on the US and Australia for us to sort out. And these people just don't want to sort it out the way we would like them to. Hawkmoon
