It is obvious you never heard of the Northern Alliance and you think that Massoud is a Middle Eastern dip or something. Read up on Massoud, this guy singlehandedly kicked the Soviets out of Afghanistan, of course all the millions in CIA aid came in handy too. Guy must have been a REAL Rambo huh? I mean to singlehandedly kick the soviets out with only a few boy scouts to help..LMAO Get a World Atlas out there and study it. First find Afganistan, then look at its mountains and desert, then look at its climate, then look at how many buildings are left standing (get some photos of their cosmopolitan cities out) and THINK about what it will take to "defeat" them. Maybe they really want to provoke that, considered that? If they did want provoke their own death. I would say they have accomplished that. It does not matter what it "takes" to defeat them.

I've flown over Afghanistan a few times. It's amazing how desolate it is - the tiniest strips of green along the valleys and barren desert mountains between. Tiny ancient villages which are like one block of clustered houses. I think the NE region might be better I had had a different impression after reading "A Walk in the Hindu Kush" for example. It is recognized as the poorest place on Earth well maybe together with Sierra Leone- life expectancy around 40. I always tell people who go on about human rights under the Taliban that the education of women is the least of their problems. Place is scattered with landmines still... Only heard one media person (on Radio Australia) make the connection between the assasaination of Massood and the attack on the US, but it seems a strange coincidence otherwise. Both suicide attacks. Northern Alliance fired a few missiles at Kabul yesterday so I wouldn't say they are dead. David
