What's not to understand about protecting the President? He's the commander in chief, like him or not. If you don't protect your elected leader, then there is no democracy. It's not brain surgery.

i have never understood that concept. The president is elected by less than 50% of the people. The work is done by people many layers below him. He doesnt do any work other than make decisions which 1/2 or more of the country disagrees with. If he dies, the VP is quite capable (or even better although he may notbe good at winning an election) of taking over
