Actually, I like 'Q's idea of spreading money around to mercenaries as well. It kind of reminds me of an old "Happy Days" episode, where the 'Fonz' was getting over-run by kids he ended up babysitting. He ended up calling up a favor from a 12 year old 'cool' image of him. To the kids, he says: "Hey, you guys are doing what you want because you know I won't hit a kid. But, meet Booker Brown....he can cause he is a kid" End of story, the kids behaved immediately.

The real political tightrope here is to provide the U.S. public with an end result that provides 'satisfaction' without turning the terrorists into Martyrs and heros in a way that makes us look like a bully.

As 'Ed' said about his street fighting rules, if the other guy 'had it coming', then his relatives won't come after you. Therefore, to introduce the new 'Bush Doctrine' in a way it will stick (that to harbor terrorists is to BE a terrorist enemy as well) a lot of PR work needs to be done properly.

I am not an educated military man like many of you here, but it stands to reason that there are really two fronts to a war, the physical and the political. There isn't a lot we can really do in the physical realm without becoming a police state. Therefore, the political 'hearts and minds' arena I see as the most critical in fighting terrorism.

That's why I suggested looking to the origins of hatred first before perpetuating it by countering with violence as well.

But, if you can get there 'peers' to see there actions as evil, and to punish them for us, our hands appear cleaner in the political arena.

Much like Ed's street fight. If you started a fight for no reason, even if you won, you knew that when you got home your dad was going to 'wup yer butt'.

So, get momentum on the world stage to go against the countries that harbor terrorists, and their 'peer' sister countries. Then, get factions in those countries to decry the evil and to destroy the camps and make the perpetrators 'disappear' for you. Now its Arabs policing there own, not an callous powerful nation bullying and squashing an insect.

How do you change the thought processes of a radical religious splinter group? Like anything, a generation at a time, through the children. The tossing of candy bars to the children in the Berlin airlift had enormous positive repercussions for years to come. So has and will the embargo against Iraq, and it will harvest bitter fruit for just as many years, I'm afraid.

Just some more thoughts, FWIW. The process is cathartic.

Good Morning KB,

Anyone feel there was any symbolism to the choice of airlines used? "American" to hit the American citizens in the towers, and United (United States) to hit the government buildings?

It's a changed world in which we live. I thought I'd share the following email from the head of a Russian Institution I received Tuesday. A high ranking Russian official expressing solidarity with the US as a member of the free world somehow gives me a feeling of hope for the world.

Dear Friends,

We are all in Russia really shocked by what happened in the United States.

Our solidarity is with all you, dear Friends, and with all Americans.

Please also know that the tears are flowing in this part of the world. Absolute shock and dismay...

We believe efforts of all free world must be united to prevent from happening of such horrible events in the future.

Jim
