(OT) t4, That was General Sheridan famous Union Army Cavalry leader and then Indian fighter in the 1860's and 1870's. He's buried at Arlington National Cemetery if you want to see his grave. You are correct in your historical observation re US intervention, although the events are still lumped historically under the title of the "Barbary Wars".
