We should do what we have to protect the country. A missle shield is a desireable long term goal. Some sort of capability to destroy missles during launch phase is a desirable short term goal. Rich, you are either very biased in your attitudes or you just lack imagination as to the many ways we can be attacked. We need to put into place the best protection possible to deal with them.

Let me give you a for instance. It is clear that we are going to the Middle East over the World Trade Center. We know that Sadam, either has or is developing nuclear capability and we know that he has at least scud missles. Maybe he has more advanced weapons, we can't know for sure. Even if he doesn't now, what is to say he or some other country we are at war with has such a capability. Our soldiers and fleet need protection and a missle defense system that can destroy a target during launch phase would be invaluable. In fact Rich, if such a thing happened while a Rep was president, from the tone of your posts, I believe you would find fault with that rep administration. On the other hand, if it happened on the Dems watch, it would be the Reps fault anyway.

Rich this is our country, not dem, not rep, but it is the country of the people and I am for country not the party. I am a dem and have been so all of my life. There was a time when it was an easy decision for me to be dem. However, while I retain my afffiliation with the dems, I am finding it harder and harder to accept the party hard line. It seems to me that they, like the reps, have abandoned the interest of the people in favor of special interests and strident idealogy. It's just the special interests and ideaology that are different. Just witness Daschle's performance of late. I am ashamed that he is a member of my party. He does not appear to believe anything and just trys to manipulate to his party's advantage. If the Reps weren't just a guilty, I would leave the party and join them.
