David:Our President has exhibited a trait particularly useful in this situation; the ability to listen to the council of those smarter than he in their areas of expertise.

Though undoubtedly smarter, I don't think a council of business executives with designs on crippling governmental regulation and oversight of their respective industries is exactly what's called for here.

david,

Yes, I think you're right. Like Reagan, he does seem to rely on the expertise of those around him to help fill in his own deficits. The worst combination in any profession is ignorance combined with arrogance - to his credit, he doesn't seem to fit that bill in many ways. I was intrigued by Bush's comment yesterday morning in which he used the word 'patience' in reference what it might take to respond adequately to this outrage. It suggests that he is listening to smarter heads and taking the advice about just how complex this is to heart. Let's hope.
