Extreme OT. When I worked for Definicon we had Oklahoma Seismic as a customer. At one time the lady that we most often dealt with came to visit. It was very unsettling to be sitting across the table from an Asian woman speaking with a strong Texas drawl. I doubt very much if you could have identified her as Asian simply by her accent.

BTW, I really didn't notice Kissingers accent (although I listened just yesterday to him on CNN). I have no problem to identify e.g. English speaking Russians or Asians (or Germans with an extreme accent) but in this case he probably speaks English as well as a German can. ;-) (according to his biography he went at 15 to the US)

Andreas, he speaks English probably in the same way an American speaks German...I know, I know, you don't hear many of those....with a heavy accent. I think its hard to speak a foreign language without the accent of your primary language interfering.

One time I was traveling with some Dutch and they would blow me away. They would speak English first with an English accent, then in mid sentence switch to English with an American accent, and then to English with an Aussie accent.

And I have trouble just getting the words out period. :~((

Andreas,

BTW, I really didn't notice Kissingers accent

This comes from a non-native speaker, he does have a fairly heavy accent. But to me, his accent is different from the very recognizable German accent.
