Our borders are obviously not as secure as they need to be and our military budgets are not exactly a state secret. Our enemies needed only to
watch our news for budget cuts over the last several years which include the military. IMO it undoubtedly added to their ability and willingness
to plan an attack of this nature.

And how would a larger military budget and greater weaponry have deterred a well planned terrorist attack using box cutters and our own planes? Do you honestly believe that islamic extremists would be deterred because we have a missile defense shield? I think that the desire to feel that we could spend more money to have control of something that we obviously have limited control over is causing people to hope for military solutions that don't exist. The reaction to something such as this is to think militarily. The answers, however, are more complicated.
