I was commenting about the general immorality (but perhaps amoral would be a better term) of the CIA.

In retrospect, the current regime in Afghanistan is more brutal, more repressive and more hostile to American interests than the regime that the Soviet Union installed and supported.

I agree with you. This was one of the very rare instances in which the CIA was on solid moral ground. They supported rebels against an invading Imperial power. Usually, the CIA defends the dictator who is in the pocket of the Imperial power (the U.S.), and fights against the popularly elected regime (e.g. Iran, Nicaragua, etc.). It just so happens that Bin Laden turned on us, and now we must fight him.
