Many people have raised the possibility that as the attacks become "old news", America will become less and less vigilant going forward. You know, they'll relax their guard.

I think they are already doing this. Overreacting is one thing, but what's the response so far? I think it is weak. I think there are things they should have done before even putting the planes back in the air.

There are many ideas for what could be done right away, but I would start with something simple: every flight in the US or destined for the US has to carry two plain clothes air marshals. This force could start out as army volunteers.

There are challenges with this idea, there always are, but it would be a loud signal right from the outset.
