bin Laden didn't turn against the US actively till the Desert Storm. US experts had warned that placing foreign forces on Muslim land may foment rebellion.

What do you know about the SOP of the CIA? Were you an operative?

I wish (too bad I can't say that I hope) that our response to this tragedy would be to look ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves what we can do to put an end to such hatred.

We should start with our dependence on fossil fuels. Our government and our allies could institute a massive international initiative to rapidly develop and deploy alternative energy resources. Stating that "more research is needed" and then cutting that research is indefensible and possibly treasonous.

We should stop electing to public office candidates who are funded by the fossil fuel industry. This gets us into trouble every time.

We should transform the CIA into an intelligence agency. Why is the CIA a covert military organization whose mission apparently is to fund and arm rebels and terrorists around the world, even though those whom we train, like Noriega, Hussein, and bin Laden, so often turn against us after they gain the power we trained them to take? Intelligence agencies should not overthrow governments or sell arms. Period.

We should stop thumbing our noses at the world. Such offenses as walking out on the racism summit, allowing our big-oil administration to sneer openly at the global warming accord, and refusing to fully prosecute an abusive international monopolist like Microsoft do not endear our nation to the peoples of the world.

Finally, we should lock the doors to commercial airliner cockpits and make it standard policy for pilots to refuse to open the doors regardless of how desperate things sound in the cabin.

Just my opinions,
Dave
