I just figured out how to explain to you our current situation, as a comparison with the World Wars and other conflicts. It is as if we had intervened in 1914, before the trench lines stabilized, and managed to tip the scale in favor of the Allies and a swift resolution, or as if we were right there in an integrated military command with the British and French, right after Poland, and able to counter the Nazis as they passed through Belgium. It is as if MacArthur had had a free hand in Korea, and had been able to pursue and destroy bases on the other side of the Yalu. It is as if we had destroyed the Ho Chih Minh Trail in 1965, and invaded North Vietnam shortly thereafter, rather than waging a war of attrition. We are going to them, and we are doing so while they are still fairly weak......
