Take pity on those of us who look on with horror at the rehashing of all this. Stop.

As I said to Mr. Bill- if these are your PERSONAL opinions about fitness, and you would not enforce them institutionally, then I agree with you- you have every right to be as prejudiced as you would like to be. If, on the other hand, you would like to see people banned from teaching because you do not like their thoughts, then I cannot agree with you. That seemed to me to be what you were saying. And it isn't about what I said on Tuesday- because you wanted me not to teach even before that. You obviously cannot stand the idea of people with different ways of thinking being able to pursue careers in teaching. Well, too bad. I'm good at it, and it looks like I will have my pick of whatever job site I want. Your wishes notwithstanding. :-)

Edit- of course this in no way minimizes the extremely offesive and personal nature of your attacks when I said nothing personal about you AT ALL.

I was quite clearly talking about THOUGHTS Chris- not "lives"- which imply action. You obviously need to re-read my post. If there are no actions taken, then punishing people for their beliefs is wrong- no matter how much you do not like their beliefs. IMO. If you want to punish people for their beliefs go ahead- but I think that is unAmerican. Avowed racists who do not act out on their racism, and do not share it with the children in their care- how would you or I know they were racists? Unless we followed them around, hoping to use their thoughts OUTSIDE of work against them? Does that sound like what we want in America? You have every right to be a racist in America, and still be employed. You do not have a right to act out in racially bigoted ways at work- the State prohibits discrimination and all school districts have regulations against this.. I am sure there are tons of racists teaching in the schools where you live- but they are not acting out on their racism. They may be sending subtle racist messages, but I cannot see throwing people out of jobs for that. I don't want a nation of group thinkers. I like the diversity in America even if it is dangerous sometimes.

I must say that it amused many people to see me lumped in with the KKK and sexual predators. No one is more against racism than I am, but I try to love freedom even more than I love my own prejudices. If I do not try to protect the rights of people that I detest, I cannot protect my own rights which I love dearly. So sorry if you do not get that.
