Actually, you are confusing two Pipes, though both write regularly for Commentary. Daniel is a Middle East expert. Richard is the Sovietologist who had a key role in Reagan's Soviet policy.......They are not related.......

As I've mentioned before, Zoltan, I'm a centrist (I just look like a leftist to you guys standing to the right of Attila the Hun -g-). I generally line up with the DLC on domestic policy (that is, center-left) and more with the Republicans (center-right) on foreign policy. Like many centrists, I was a supporter of Oslo until I became convinced that current Arab leadership (Mubarak is implicated every bit as much as Arafat here) merely regarded it as a ruse. Then I started agreeing with Pipes.
