The problem with fiat currency is not a short term problem. As a short term mean of exchange thet are adequate. The problem is long term. Fiat (non-backed) currencies are all debased over the long term and their value trend towards zero.

They say never put all your eggs in the same basket. Gold is not the largest portion of my whealth piramid. But it is the largest portion of my money savings.
