Since the industrial revolution, Western wealth and power has been sweeping the globe, bringing Western culture and ideas with it. This is intolerable to large swaths of the Arab world

nadine, we disagree here. i think most people care more about their children and friends dying and land they feel was stolen from them than they do about some philosophical ideal. not everyone, but the vast majority.
