Ten,

re: But in these particular circumstances, we have this opportunity to mourn, and we're taking it. If anything, the sooner we can mourn, the sooner we can get back to our lives, however changed they will be. But as a nation, we need to take this time.

We didn't shut down the air traffic system or the other institutions so that folks could mourn, we shut them down out of fear. That's the goal of a terrorist group, to make one action cause unrealistic fear (terror).

This was the most successful terrorist act ever, one horrendous event shut down the entire country. They did exactly what they wanted, we reacted exactly like they wanted us to react. And going forward fear will rule an increasing part of our lives, to the exclusion of some level of freedom and common sense.

In no way am I saying "get back to work you slackers". This has been hugely difficult for everyone to deal with. My heart bleeds for the victims and their families. But our society needs to defend it's institutions from these assholes, or they win. And when they win, you encourage them. How many terrorist groups are watching CNBC right now, and snickering at how easy it is to bring America down.

Lots of mixed emotions, I'll grant you that.

John
