Dennis - Times like this I tend to cut the govt a little slack. The only reason I can think of for them to try to cover up the shooting down of the plane is to preserve the image of its being brought down by the heroic passengers (whose heroism wouldn't be diminished in the least if the story's true). And, after all, crashing the plane was what the everyone was hoping for at that point.

Aside from that, I'm in awe of the reaction to this tragedy: the orderly, and if the numbers prove accurate, amazingly successful evacuation of the Towers - I wouldn't have dared hope that 90% of the occupants could have escaped; the apparent lack of unrestrained panic in the cities after the attacks; the absence of any civil disorder following it; the limited amount of anger directed towards Arab-Americans (and I hope we take every opportunity to show respect for them and empathy for their situation); and the quick and professional response of the govt agencies involved in dealing with this.

While it'll be a while before I can laugh again, I don't think I've ever been as proud to feel apart of this culture.
