Bonnie- I hope you saw my edit-and realize that this wasn't directed against you. As I said, I short plenty of companies. Like you, I am uncomfortable about tying up patriotism with protecting assets and making practical business decisions. I just wish people wouldn't say (and you DIDN'T, please understand I did not mean you!) "SERVES those bad airlines right. Let's take them down." The airlines are people. I understand that the demonization of management is a popular pasttime, but I have met most of upper management and know some very well, and while they may be business men, I would wager there is not one who hasn't cried over this and wondered what could have been done to prevent it. Also, it could have been ANY airline. ANY one. that said, I patriotically went to COSTCO and bought a new VCR and phone. My VCR, overcome perhaps by too much Richard Simmons, ate both his tapes and then died. And my phone may have expired from exhaustion after Tuesday. I bought one with a headset. I am doing my bit for the economy.
