RE:"From the perpetrators perspective, who won the aftermath of this event?"

The perpetrators obviously won round one...
We are between rounds now. Round two will be a different story should we be really serious...

The skys will be full soon enough. Security will be tightened. The price of airline tickets will have to go up.
Less people could be flying. Borders should be tightened way up.
Seems we have dragged ourselves right into the middle of the mid-east conflict. Shame on us.

The economy may slow down even at a faster pace now.

RE:"Think, this isn't an invasion by tens of thousands of terrorists. This is an incredibly successful (unlucky) action by a very small group of terrorists. The country was as safe Monday afternoon as it was Monday morning, probably safer."

They have imported this to our shores...they are living right here...sending their contributions back for the "cause".
Supposedly Bin Laden has over 400 willing to do the same thing right now. Countless others in other groups.
Just found out a retired Eastern Airlines pilot was training them in a flight simulator in Hialeah, FL.
Makes sense. A lot easier to devise ways of terrorism if you are familiar with and living in the country you want to terrorize.
We have reason to believe there will be more strikes...

Jim

John, Re: If we decide to close down our society, our way of life, for every jerk on a mission, what does that say to our other enemies? Are we becoming more or less of a appealing target?

No, it will attract them even more. Bush said this is a different kind of war and the enemies' only aim is to cause pain and chaos. So the more panic reaction, the more likely they will strike again.
